Any further word on this problem? Made the mistake of up-dating a week ago, Time Machine is a temp. fix. Hope a permanent one will come.

We are going to purchase a test device for me this week - however, I won't be able to use it prior to end of may (shipping stuff), so regrettably, this is taking a little longer, but will be worked out eventually.

in the meantime, as stated above, i would be happy to support you. If you have already any updated sources, i could compile these and check is issue on my G4 mini.

We got updated sources, which lead to a black video screen without any stripes or color artifacts. This isn't exactly what you want though.

I fear that we won't be able to fix this without hands-on access to a device, which is why we're purchasing a Mac mini.

Thanks a lot for your offer and be sure that I'll update this thread as soon as I have something proper for you to test :)

red strips are appearing outside the vlc also, i think it may be due to your drievrs.

you may have outdated drivers, try after upgrading them

this problem is not a G4 only problem.
i am running VLC 2.0.1 Twoflower (PowerPC 32bit) on a dual 1.8 GHz G5 (2004 model) with 4 GB of RAM, OSX 10.5.8, & the following graphics card setup:
Chipset Model: GeForce FX 5200
Type: Display
Bus: AGP
Slot: SLOT-1
VRAM (Total): 64 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0321
Revision ID: 0x00a2
ROM Revision: 2060
i get the same lines around the left and bottom edges that are shown in the screenshot picture (from the IT Crowd) with everything i try to watch.
i have recommended VLC to everyone since finding out about it years back, but with this kind of issue, i cannot continue to do so.
please help.

Guys, I received my testing devices 2 days ago on a trip and hope to set it up tomorrow once I'm home again. No promises for 2.0.2, but we will find a solution shortly!

Ah, and obviously, since Apple no longer maintains OS X 10.5, there are no driver updates once could install, so we need to work with what we got here.

@therecloose: This isn't a CPU problem, but a graphics card incompatibility. Therefore, there are a few models affected regardless of whether they are based upon a G4 or a G5.

Any updates on this issue?

I also heard some rumors that PPC Support might be dropped in VLC 2.1.x

sorry, apparently, I forgot to update this thread. This issue is resolved in VLC 2.0.2.

We are thinking a lot about VLC 2.1.0 these days, however nothing is set in stone so far. VLC 2.1.0 is rather a long term thing, so don't worry.

Indeed, the red stripes are gone here ( iMac G4, 10.5.8 )!
Thank you for fixing it :)

Very slow on a 1ghz G4 with default settings and post-processing turned down to zero.

I tried to play a standard 700mb xvid, and it drops about 50% of the frames.

Is there a setting I should tweak, or do I need to go back to 1.1.9?
