Starting VLC from dock with --ffmpeg-threads=1 (to fix audio

Postby ssiva » 24 Jun 2012 01:42

VLC used to work fine for my use as a baby cam viewer on my Mac (Intel) until one of the versions broke it. After that, I could only get VIDEO but NO AUDIO at all. After much searching I found out that if I were to start VLC from the command line with the "--ffmpeg-threads=1" option, then audio would play fine... So far so good... I have no idea why I have to use this setting or what it means... but thats ok.

So now I have to open a Terminal to start VLC with that setting.

My question is:
Is there a startup configuration file for VLC so that I can set that as a default so that I can go back to starting VLC from my dock graphically?

Thanks in advance!

Preferences -> All -> Input/Codec -> Video -> FFmpeg
Threads: 0 (0 means auto)
You can change the setting from 0 to 1.

Awesome! That worked. Thanks!

BTW not that it matters - but my text should have said that without that option it plays AUDIO only and NO VIDEO (not the other way around). Anyhoo, it is fixed now and I can start it from my dock.

Thanks again!

Hey there,

could you give a few more details on the media you're playing and especially the Mac you're using for that, so we can fix the underlying issue?

Thanks!
