VLC "Font Rebuilding"

Postby TECH198 » 30 Mar 2012 01:04

Hi all

Upgraded to 2.01 today, but what is the meaning of this "Font building" popup ?

Before version 2.0 this rebuilding was never done, and everything seemed better, including the GUI interface..

So, why this ?

Also, I'm noticed the "Enable EQ" checkbox now remains sticky.... But is this really a good enough of a reason to change the GUI as well ?...

The Font building seems useless to me, ad more trouble when it fails, so what is it actually doing ? and why is this needed in VLC ?

It's for displaying OSD and subtitles.
Basically, the font cache building occurs only once, unless you delete the cache, add new fonts to the system or play MKV containing embedded fonts.

If you see the rebuilding dialogue every time before playing video, font caches are maybe corrupted. Delete "~/Library/Caches/fontconfig".
