Problem with subtitles for 3D movies

Postby juap » 05 Aug 2011 00:51

:!: The problem: I need to put subtitles with 3D movies known as "Side by side". The problem is that when i play the side by side movies the TV mix left and right side of the screen to make one 3D image, there is no problem for VLC for mac and my TV with 3D, but the subtitles keep in the middle so the TV when do the conversion to 3D, cut the subtitles in the middle and became a mess in 3D.

:?: The question: There is a way to put the same subtitles in both side (Left and right) of the screen?, or there is a solution in VLC to play 3D movies with the subtitles?

Thanks!

I don't think there is a solution for now.

84.27.10.123/3DSubtitler/

1. download (2 files)
2. use the *.exe program to create from *.srt a *.sup
3. use the *.jar program to create from the *.sup a *.sub and *.idx
4. rename the *.sub and *.idx (same as moviename)
5. enjoy!

What format is your file?

Previously I have used Subler (http://code.google.com/p/subler/) for adding subtitles to MP4 files, though without knowing more about your case I can't provide more help.
Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

The thing is, i need a general solution... I usually play .MKV format through my macbook, but also other formats such as .AVI or whatever, every time i put subtitles to the video all the text became a mess. So I'm waiting the option to play 3D subtitles for VLC or a similar method, 1 year with a wasted 3D TV and counting...
I don't have Windows, and i can't ask a friend every time i need his PC.
My TV is a Sony BRAVIA 40EX 3D and a Macbook Pro, VLC is updated always... and.. i don't know what else u need to know.
Thanks!

Yes we need this functionality.
I cannot believe that VLC still lacks of the 3D subtitle feature.

Do you know any solution in Mac Os for now?

Hello!
I've meant to do this for a while but didn't really got time to do so.
I recently rewrote the tool I came up to convert subtitles to 3D-friendly format for using with VLC, MPlayer.
Currently, it only supports SRT as input and ASS as output. Further more, customization is limited but you can manually edit the output file if you want to.
In any case, I believe it's decent enough for basic usage. So I'm releasing the source code. Available here:

http://code.google.com/p/sub3dtool/

However, it's meant for linux users, and I have no access to Mac OS X, so I can't really support the platform.
But if you manage to compile it, maybe it'll work just fine.

Hi there

I just gave this a try, and could build sub3dtool on a macbook pro running macos 10.9.1 without a glitch
I mean, running make produced an executable without whining

however when I try to run the tool I am stubbornly getting the help message, so I wonder if I'm doing anything wrong

I have an srt file that works great with th 2d movie
I'm simply trying to run:
sub3dtool --3dsbs gravity-2013.en.srt
and as I said I am getting the help message...

is this expected ? are there any other mandatory option that I am missing ?

thanks
