Video Scrubber Is Too Small

Postby slimandslam » 21 Mar 2012 04:28

Hi folks,

I see that the size of the video scrubber has increased in VLC 2.x. However, it is still way too small
when you use a controller from a distance (e.g. in your living room).
Is there no way for a user to increase the size of it?

Here's a screen capture of the VLC 2.x scrubber: http://levitt.info/IMAGES/vlc201.png

Now here's the scrubber from Eyetv (which is a nice size): http://levitt.info/IMAGES/eyetv.png

Can't you make it big like EyeTV's????

I guess this is an amusing discussion that you've linked to, but since they provide no screen captures, I have no idea what they're referring to. The onscreen controller is quite small and unobtrusive, even in fullscreen mode.

And they feel it is too big...

I can't believe we're talking about the same controller. Maybe I'm not enabling the "fullscreen controller" somehow?
Is there more than one onscreen controller for VLC 2.0 for Mac?

To be fair, though, they seem to be talking about 1280x800 Macbook screens while I'm talking
about a 46" TV with 1080p run from a Mac Mini.

Yes, the problem is that the controller doesn't scale for the screen size. So people with big screens it's fine... small screens it's too big and 720x480 tv output it's apparently larger than the screen and crops off the edges.

This is why at least a different smaller scaled down controller should be provided under a certain resolution size.

Not exactly -- people with big screens (like me) -- it's WAY TOO SMALL. Try using a controller from across the room watching a 40+" TV screen....

A true vector scaling controller would cover the issue at any size.
