Increase the size of the video scrubber?

I often use VLC for Macintosh to watch videos on my 1080p video screen. Even though I'm using VLC in "fullscreen" mode, it's really annoying that the VLC video scrubber is so tiny that it's hard to position the cursor on it to move the video. Is there any way
to increase the size of the scrubber so it's not so tiny?

The video scrubber will be larger in VLC 1.2 (to be released this fall) along with a size-adapted fullscreen controller for 24" and 27" displays.

VLC 2.0 is now out and the scrubber does seem to be a bit larger in the fullscreen mode (I think?)

However, the scrubber really isn't big enough (especially for my 40" TV) and I don't see a way to increase the size.

Is there a way to make the scrubber larger?
