drag & drop subtitles

Postby rhuobhe » 24 Jun 2011 23:40

Hello,

Is it possible to drag & drop subtitles to VLC player? It's working if I use the Video -> Subtitle Track etc. menu but I can't seem to load it via drag & drop. Did a search both on this forum and google but couldn't find a solution. Any help would be appreciated. (VLC version 1.1.10.1 and Mac OS X v 10.6.7)

Cheers

I can't get my srt file (when dragged and dropped, or for that matter by any means) to display the subtitles on my .mpg video file, which I created by clicking on VLC's record button. (I recorded a DVD video by this method.) Now I would like to play the subtitles on the .mpg video file, but I can't get the subtitles to play. Can anyone help? (The mpg file and the srt file have the same name, except for the ending, and are located in the same folder.) Thanks for the help in advance.

I am using windows xp and have 1.1.10 VLC player installed on my PC.

Sorry, drag & drop of the subtitle file isn't supported on Mac OS X at the moment. No idea about the Windows port, but I tend to doubt it.

@ Freedrom Patriot: this is a separate issue which should be discussed in a separate thread, preferably on the Windows forum..

I think the problem is the creation of the .mpg file (which was created by VLC player, by clicking on the record button). If I take the .mpg file and convert it to an .avi file (I can convert it for free using the free open source program called "VideoPad Video Editor"), then when I click and drag my .srt subtitle file onto the playing video via VLC player, the subtitles display perfectly.

So my advice to the developers of the VLC player, is to alter your programming (for the next version of the VLC player) so that .mpg files support the clicking and dragging and dropping of .srt subtitle files.

That is the best that I can figure out at this stage of the game.

The next problem would be that the developers would again have to alter the programming for the next version of the VLC player, and make it so that the second and third (VTS_01_2 and VTS_01_3 . I created 3 video files burning a DVD to disk using "ConvertXtoDVD4") files also support the "loop" feature/button on the VLC player. The first created VTS_01_1 file LOOPS fine, it is the 2nd and 3rd ones that for some reason don't support the "Loop" feature/button on the VLC player. Instead of "looping" the video sort of goes slowly frame by frame.

It appears that the "loop feature" button may have now been sort of fixed, so that it loops on files VTS_01_2 and VTS_01_3 in the latest version of the VLC player. (which is version 1.1.11) I am still testing it out. You have to let at least 10 seconds pass in between when you first press the loop button and when you press the loop button a second time, otherwise it does a screwy frame by frame thing. So I guess it is partially improved, unless it was like this all the time and I just didn't notice. The bottom line is it still needs to be improved.
