Playlist problems: songs not highlighted and no file name

Pretty much in the title - the song that is currently playing is NOT highlighted in the VLC Playlist.
And also another problem - VLC only shows metadata names of the songs, never the file names.

It's really frustrating, because it's so hard to see what is playing now, especially with a big playlist and files with incorrect metadata.
I've always had those problems. Today I updated to the latest 1.0.5 version, but it didn't help.

It's version 1.1.8 now already and I still don't see any fix to that problem - the currently playing song is not highlighted in the playlist, and VLC doesn't display filename - only the name that it reads in the metadata, which is often just wrong or corrupted...

I'm using 1.1.12 and the same problem still exists.

If I change the metadata title to the filename and save my change, all is well.

But when I restart VLC, I find that the metadata change was NOT actually stored, and I'm back to square one.

A toggle in the preferences to choose between displaying the metadata title or the filename would be fabulous!
