vlc 1.1.10+ toast burned DVD playback squeezed

I tried to play a .toast(toast 9) dvd file in VLC 1.1.10 and also 1.1.11 for ppc, and it comes up with the menu screen, for which the buttons don't always work, but when I start to play the dvd file, it squeezes the image from landscape to narrow portrait format! see image below"



It does NOT do this with real, pre-recorded dvds.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the newer version(incl prefs etc), but same glitch. I downgraded to 1.0.5 and it plays like it should. Am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Am assuming it is either a bug or a conflict since it is corrected by downgrading.

fyi: I am on a G5 2 ghz imac running 10.5.8
