Thanks Stu but oddly it isn't there even though I can see older versions for some of my other apps.
Does anyone have a back up copy of the ipa file for the previous version? That's going to be the only way of watching avi on my iPad without freezing I think, given recent press coverage about this app being withdrawn. Bad news all round

... on a PC with XP, Itunes keeps a copy of your apps under

My Documents/My Music/Itunes/Itunes Media/Mobile Applications

VLC.ipa should be the original app and VLC 1.0.ipa the update app.

Copy them out of there and to somewhere safe.
Remove VLC Player from your Ipad, iphone etc.

Then paste a copy of VLC.ipa into the directory named
My Documents/My Music/Itunes/Itunes Media/Automatically Add to iTunes/

Re tick it inside of Itunes, apply and you should be back to the original app. Hope this helps and is similar process on Windows 7

BTW I love the work the VLC guys are doing :)

That's interesting. Here's hoping 4.2 is released to us genpop tomorrow (Sunday) as rumoured before I spend money on Cinexplayer or whatever alternative is being touted
No longer occurs on iPad running iOS 4.2 GM

Cinexplayer and OPlayerHD Lite are both absoutly free. No reason to pay for anything to continue using your iPad while we wait for a fix. Both work identical in function as to how you load or delete movies from the iPad. Cinexplayer just had probes playing some movie files. Oplayer seems to play everything but has a banner above the movie. Neither replace VLC but it's better then suffering through this current release.

Hi all,
Exactly same issue for me, after the update vlc would crash every 5-10 min.
Luckily i had the old version in my pc, so i removed the new one and installed the old one.
I love the work you guys are doing. It's such a pleasure to be able to watch avi movies without converting them.
Keep up the great work

Cinexplayer isn't free.
And VLC should open more video types.

It just went to a pay app in the last couple days it seems. Guess Oplayer will get you by. There is no doubt VLC is a better app but at the moment it's broken so the fact it plays more vid types is irrelevant.

I did notice something not mentioned in any previous post. the problem seems to be related to the sound system.

I usualy watch movies with headphones on. Whenever the lock-up happens (usually every 9-12 minutes), I follow the following steps:
  • close VLC (via the home button).
  • wait about 10 seconds or long enough to no longer hear the "buzz" in the headphones.
  • restart VLC. The movie always play from the last remembered position before the crash.
The 10 seconds may, perhaps, indicate that the sound server (or whatever serves that purpose on iOS) has timed out. I won't clog up this forum with more crash logs as there are already several posted. hope this helps, and good hunting.

I love VLC, but with this problem, the program is useless.

So like I wrote earlier, I tried BUZZ Player HD, and as far as I can tell, it works EXACTLY as well as VLC did prior to the issue, so... all good.

Where can we find VLC.ipa 1.0. This is the old version removed from AppleStore.
The new 1.1.0 crash after 5-10 minutes, but old version 1.0 work perfectly.
Unfortunately I delete the 1.0 version and I cannot restore...

Thank you.
