Subtitles with special characters

Postby Snicks » 31 Oct 2010 16:23

Hi again,

Is there a way to make subtitle with special characters work ? I'm using romanian subtitles, and we have a couple of special characters (like șțâăî) and they show up like weird characters. I know I have to do something about the encoding, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks,
Andi

That depends on the encoding of the textfile used. If you don't know the encoding, it is just to go through the encodings in the VLC settings until it gets right. Maybe re-encoding in a texteditor helps too. (I guess)

I tried all sorts of combinations and I can't manage to find the right one.

Maybe someone can help me figure out how this works ?

Take this for example: http://subtitrari.regielive.ro/download ... 110104.srt
On the line 2 where it sais "Ón p„m‚ntul misterios..." it should be "În pământul misterios". I don't need the special character, it could as well be "In pamantul misterios", but those replacing characters are really confusing.

Thank you,
Andi

I was having this same problem. Simply changing my language in the prefs from English to Romanian solved it.
