Bookmarks Do Not Save in VLC for Mac

Postby charlottephoto » 25 Nov 2008 08:12

I open a .avi file, save a playlist, create bookmarks. Everything works as long as I keep the files open. As soon as I close and reopen the playlist, no bookmarks are saved.
I have saved and saved and tried both file types many times and they just wont save.

Any ideas??

I'm having the same exact issue as well. Is there something we're doing wrong? Please help!

I'm also troubled by this. I would be very happy if it works. Especially if it works in combination with vlc remote. Then it saves me a lot of time when showing selected clips in class to students, without having to turn to my mac every time.

Regrettably, this feature was never completely finished. Therefore, you're unable to save bookmarks on all platforms supported by VLC.

What the hell? How can such a popular player have such massive flaws? I need to save bookmarks? But this "feature hasn't been finished"? Really annoying. Why is the feature still in the menus then?

Perfect example of why open source projects can suck

Perfect example of open source users complaining without the slightest will to improve the situation.

Why not just populate VLC's menus with hundreds of options that don't actually exist, or that *might* be included in future? I believe there's a reason why most applications don't do this, so why does VLC include make belief functions and routines that don't work? And have you seen the stunningly awful convert function?

If it doesn't work, take it out. Don't leave it in for god's sake.

The current Bookmarks feature is needed for some other functionality in VLC (basically, to be able to export parts of a video) and is therefore in use by some people. Some for the converting feature, which is used by a couple of major companies.

EOT for me.

I would totally agree that it can be frustrating when ALL the great ideas aren't implemented flawlessly, but seriously. I'm always astounded by the entitlement of open source users... Someone has given you a wonderful piece of software, and all you can do is throw a tantrum when it is not perfect? Geez.

OK, *six years later* the feature still isn't implemented. And *six years later* the menu item is still there.

I'm a programmer, and I can't imagine this would be hard to implement. But there is *no way* I'm signing on to work with people who care so little about the basic functionality of the product, and who are simply insulting to their users as above.

The users, especially the non-technical ones, are the whole point of the exercise, guys. Without them the software is kinda pointless, and if they say something sucks, it sucks - regardless of how many hours you've put into it and regardless of your emotional attachment to the work.
