Where's 64-bit 1.0.3 gone?

Postby Erwin_Br » 02 Nov 2009 00:27

I updated from 1.0.2 to 1.0.3 just now, and I noticed that the application is now running in 32-bit instead of 64-bit!

So I went to the website to download the update manually, and to my astonishment I can't find a 64-bit version anywhere! Only a universal binary and the 32-bit version. I tried the universal one, but still no 64-bit!

Am I overlooking something here?

I'm running OSX 10.5.8.

The 64bit build contained a few nasty bugs that will need to be smashed with a big can of bugfixes before it is released.

If you need 64bit for an important specific reason then you can use the builds from http://nightlies.videolan.org/ I would just stick with 32bit until the bugs are squashed, but the builds are there if you're desperate enough to try them.

Ah, okay. That explains why I couldn't find it.

Thanks for the information!

Is it recommend to use the 1.0.3 32-bit version instead of using the 1.0.2 64-bit version on an intel based mac with snow leopard? Or shall I wait until the 64-bit is out?

1.0.3 32bit is the version you should be using. 64bit will be nice when the bugs are fixed, but until then the 32bit build is rock solid.

The trouble with using the 32-bit build is that Handbrake is no 64bit, and so it needs a 64-bit VLC.

I am using the 64-bit 1.0.2 and I've had no noticeable problems.

If you are watching video without subtitles then you might not see the problems with it. There were a few others, but the 1.0.5/1.0.4 nightly builds are fixing a lot of the known issues.

I was frustrated as well since Handbrake requires 64-bit. There is nothing on the Mac download page mentioning 64-bit is in test. It looks like I am stuck as I could not find a download for the 1.0.2 64-bit version.

Is there a target date when the 1.0.3 64-bit version may be ready for prime time?
