last nite VLC install; disappeared this morning; reinstall?

I'm a brand new mac user and last night I downloaded, installed, and very successfully used VLC Media Player for Mac. I just left it on the desktop where it put itself by the drive.

This morning I when I restarted the new computer VLC player was just gone! Can't find it. I should have dragged it to Applications folder. Should I reinstall it?

You just mounted the disc image and ran it from there. You need to actually copy it to your Applications folder to install. Otherwise when the disc is not mounted on restart you won't see it.
