Sorry, but VLC does not include any error message recommending the usage of Windows Media Player.

Hi
Even I faced the same error today with an avi file. I have 1.0.1 Goldeneye Vlc player. It is a avi out of camera. Its a movie which displays the said error and stops. Quicktime does not recognize as a movie file.

It was tough to cut 700 MB to get a short file. I downloaded trial version of iTool Video Cutter for MAC and got a clip file of 3.3 MB. Please note that this file opened in Quicktime with same error whereas the original file was not recognized by Quicktime as a movie file. I tried sending the file to the mentioned address but got a failure notice. I am not sure if this was becasue of attachment size or something else.

Please let me know how you want me to send this clip to you.

Oh, really? Strange. Let's put "feepk" in front of the at sign followed by videolan.org. This should definitely work. A 3.3 MB attachment is perfectly fine (AFAIR, my provider has a 20 MB limitation).

If this fails again, use sendspace or something similar and just mail me the link.

Thanks!

I was able to send the clip file to feepk without any issue. Thats what I think as I have not received any error message from gmail like last time. Its more than 3 hrs since I sent it so its safe to assume that email was successful.

I got it.

You were tricked by who ever gave you this file. This is no error message created by VLC (this would appear in a separate window along with the usual red stop sign you known from OS X), but text embedded in the video graphics. As it is part of the video's images, it cannot be removed. Therefore, it will also appear when playing it with QuickTimePlayer or MPlayer, etc. Hence, it will even appear if actually played with Windows Media Player.

It is strange that someone asks you to play this file with WMP, so I strongly recommend you no to do so.

Even I had such a hunch but wanted to confirm it, hearing it from an expert does that..Thanks a lot.

The reason it gets you to play in Media Player is because Media Player can launch a browser. The browser is directed to a page where you download a custom player, which I'm fairly certain would be full of spyware, malware or the like.

you have the virus WMA: wimad

google it

if you are on a mac it prob's wont affect you
usually after the redirecting message it then sends you to a fake website to download a "codec" that is actually a trojan

there is a chance however that this virus can spread and change all your other video files into displaying this fake video message instead.

Ondine DVDRIP.Divx 2009 [Uncut] - Xclusive [EXTRATORRENT]

trojan horse inside!!

Fkuehne,
User: Pankil says in a post here that the sample video file which he sent to you was recognised by Quicktime player while the parent file wasn't recognized. I've two such mammoth video files which I've downloaded, is there any way that I can cut some part of it and make it play on the VLC player(since in both of my files the error occurs at the beginning.)?
