Converting VLC to Quicktime

Postby Luckyword » 11 May 2009 20:50

How can I convert VLC files to quicktime? That is, I'd like to be able to open VLC files in quicktime so I can edit them. I realize you can edit in VLC as well. Thanks. David

Rather than doing any kind of conversion, try installing the Perian Quicktime plugin, this should allow quicktime to open many of the files VLC can play (but not all). You should then be able to use quicktime editing capabilities as usual.

Thanks for the suggestion. I installed Perian and opened one of the VLC files. Here's the thing. It's a short movie I acted in, and there are three VLC files...one has the video, one has the audio. So when I open the video file in quicktime, I can only see the video, I can't hear the audio still. How do I solve that, or can it be solved?

Another alternative is to convert the file to MPEG4, since that is a format that Quicktime supports without any additional software.
Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

You could try streaming (without or without transcoding depending on source codecs) to a MP4 file in VLC by going to (process might differ slightly for the OS X Cocoa interface):
Media >> Convert / Save...

Selecting you file(s), then in the "Stream Output" window ticking "File", entering a destination (with .mp4 extension), and selecting "MP4" as the encapsulation.

Arite.
