How do I watch some DL'd AVIs on my TV using USB to AV?

Postby territ88 » 02 May 2009 00:59

I purchased a USB to AV video cable. I plugged the USB side into my MacBook and the 3 AV (red, yellow, white) plugs into my TV.

I thought it would be kind of like using a projector, in that I just have to hook it up and hit the fn (function) key + F3, and it'd display whatever was on my Mac screen to the TV, but alas this isn't working.

Do I need some external device to plug the computer into, or is there some way to watch video files I have stored on my Macbook on the TV by directly plugging them into each other?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

The ones I am familiar with are used to capture video from a VCR, etc.. to the computer over USB. It is used as a video input, not output, and requires software to accomplish this. Maybe yours is different though. Which one do you have?

What you may need is http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9319G/A. This will give you video out from the MacBook. You would then also need a cable like this (http://www.monoprice.com/products/produ ... 1&format=2) plugged into the headphone jack of the MacBook for the audio.
