RTP streams don't play properly

Before I go ahead and report a bug I want to double check if this is the expected behaviour for an RTP stream that is being opened in VLC 0.9.8 (Intel).

The RTP stream I'm joining is on 239.192.2.40, port 3000.
If I use the default options from the GUI, Radio button UDP/RTP Multicast, this generate the following Media Resource Locator (MRL): udp://@239.192.2.40:3000

The outputted video is all garbled and will crash VLC between seconds and minutes.

I have to override the MLR with rtp://@239.192.2.40:3000 for the stream to be processed correctly.

Since there is no drop down list as there is for the Windows version, I can't specifically select RTP under OS X.

IMHO this is a bug that needs to be fixed.

Anyone else seeing this issue with RTP streams or believe that it should be fixed?

UDP is for raw MPEG over UDP, although VLC should anyway not crash.

We agree that it's for MPEG-2 TS encapsulated streams, my point is the user can't select RTP specifically when he is joining a RTP encapsulated MPEG-2TS source. Hence the need for a drop down option as there is for the Win32 GUI.

I've opened ticket 2497 against this issue.

I don't really see the point of having a UI for either of these. Normally, these values will be obtained from a SDP or a playlist. Otherwise, user can type in the location completely anyway.

Lack of consistency with Win32 UI to start off. In Win32 builds you specify from a drop down list the type of protocol you will be using (UDP, RTP, RTMP, etc). Under Mac OSX I can't specify if I need UDP or RTP. There is one line for both and no way (other than via the command line) to specify RTP since the default is udp://

As for the information being populated via SDP or another method, that may not always be available in all environments and being able to enter the information via the GUI can be considered helpful.
