0.9.8 on G4 Dual 500 MHz, OS 10.4.11

I have searched and I cannot find a definitive answer on this--

With the latest VLC Player running on the machine described in the subject line I get audio but no video for any and all video file formats I try to play. A window opens at the correct aspect ratio for the video being played, the audio plays, but the window is just black. Version 0.8.6i works perfectly.

Is this a known issue? Is there any way to get the latest version of VLC to play video on older G4s?

Thanks in advance for any info, insights or assistance on this matter.

i have a Digital Audio G4 533mhz and so far (other then movies in a .mkv container) everything is great. both in 10.4.11 and in 10.5.5

Same here; a dual G4 533mHz Digital Audio, OS 10.4.11.
With VLC 0.8.6h I get the occasional stutter if too much activity in the background, but otherwise works fine.
