VLC 0.9.6 crashes after ~10s, just black picture

I am using VLC on My IBook G3 900Mhz for years without any problems (OS X 10.4).
Last weeks I updates from 0.9.5 to 0.9.6.
The new version just plays mpegs. All other video files start with a black window, there is sound for ~10s, then it crashes.
Removing 0.9.6 and reinstalling 0.9.5 does not help.
I deleted the cache and the preferences, but this does not help...

Any idea how I could get VLC running again???

I have no idea why the actual 0.9.6 does not any more, but as long as the 0.8 works...
