ac3 pass-thru occasionally causing a kernel panic?

Postby MRKisThatKid » 13 Nov 2008 00:22

I've recently started to get a kernel panic every few days, and the only thing consistent with each one is that I have been playing an x264 in vlc with the ac3 pass-thru to my z-5500.

Also, the kernel panic log says the panic was caused by the audio IO. Is there a chance that this is a bug in VLC?

Here's the panic log...

Re: ac3 pass-thru occasionally causing a kernel panic?

This has been happening to me as well. My Mac has completely crashed under a kernel panic 5 times and only 5 times and each time it was caused by the DTS passthrough from VLC. It occurs playing an .mkv Hi-Def x264 file with DTS encoded audio.

I have tried playing the same files in Mplayer and Plex and it happens with neither of those programs. It only happens in VLC.

It is a bug in VLC or some bug in the Apple module dealing with VLC.

This is the last line in Console before the crash:

11/19/08 11:42:29 PM [0x0-0x238238].org.videolan.vlc[3780] [00000434] a52 decoder: A/52 channels:6 samplerate:48000 bitrate:640000

Then... boom. The next time it happens I will save the crash report that is sent to Apple and post it here.
