No audio with AC3 files

Hi I have some strange problem. All my files with AC3 audio which i open in VLC don't have any audio. As far as I know they used to work before :S.

Anyone familiar with this?

Edit: just found out that avi files with ac3 audio DO work in VLC but .mov files with AC3 audio DONT work in VLC (they do in Quicktime)

yes it does the same with me. but also with AC-3 avi files.
