I was wondering how come VLC can't play mkv's fluently, but when I play the file in osxmbc, its fluent and I got more then enough cpu to spare...
Is it possible as that project is also opensource to use their ffmpeg decoder for VLC ?
Well mplayer does a little bit of a better job, but its still nothing compared to how osxmbc plays HD especially noticeable with the 1080p ones.Agreed. Mplayer (when I can make it work -- ugh) does do a better job than VLC with MKVs, but VLC is more stable than Mplayer, at least for me. I'm on a dual 800 PPC G4.
I actually didn't have any stability problems, just really slow decoding.Nightly builds should be more stable on MKV.
About HD playback, we are working on it.
