Loading video_ts folders takes about 10-15seconds now??

Postby cableguy » 22 Mar 2008 00:31

i use vlc to play video_ts folders i drag the folder into the playlist window and hit play and it sits there for about 10-15 seconds before it starts to play.
it USED to play almost instantly....(this is for files on the local hdd as well as the network drive)

If i launch it via the apple dvd player it launches instantly.

ive deleted the vlc folder in user>cableguy>library>preferences>VLC
deleted the vlc program itself and restarted the pc and redownloaded vlc.

any ideas?
im about ready to format the mac but id LOVE to not have to do that.

mac mini 1.8 c2d
stock config
gigE network

thanks in advance

thanks for the reply...

i have figured it out what is causing the issue....
The video_ts files are now on a networked hard drive, if its on the local HDD it loads almost instantly.
However, apple's dvd player will play it instantly over the network. Also, if its a MKV file, VLC will load and play it instantly (local hdd and network hdd)

So now for my next question: Is VLC trying to cache/buffer the VIDEO_TS folder some how? (I figure it must be doing something, as Apple's dvd player plays it instantly and MKV files play instantly via VLC)
Is there a setting in the preferences that I can change to fix this? I poked around for a little while before I came into work and saw a bunch of cache value #'s, but I'm not sure as to which one I should change. Anyone want to point me in the correct direction?

I have a gigE network so I dont think VLC would need to cache/buffer the file too much as the network wont have any issues keeping up.
