Sync workaround for A2DP in OS X 10.5

Postby sdodd » 19 Nov 2007 08:39

First let me start by complementing the VLC team for producing the best media player for OS X. I use VLC on OS X, Linux, and Windows (I'm promiscuous).

I just got Bluetooth A2DP working in OS X 10.5 with my Sony-Ericsson Walkman HBH-DS970 stereo earbud headset (which, in turn, works with my Helio Ocean). I was pleasantly surprised to discover that VLC supports it out of the box via the Audio|Audio Device menu. However, the audio can get out of sync pretty quickly -- I assume due to reception problems at the device end.

Adjusting the audio delay via the F and G keys is an okay workaround, but the typical Bluetooth headset user is not going to be anywhere near the keyboard. Stopping playback, hitting Play and jumping forward to where you left off is also a good workaround. It appears to reset the connection to the headset.

That's a bit involved, though. I was wondering if it'd be possible to provide a third workaround. I'm spit-balling here, but I'm thinking of a RESET command that would shut down the connection to the Bluetooth audio device and start it up again, re-syncing the audio to the current video offset. Initially, the RESET command could be bound to a keyboard key.

Once AVRCP support is added (a-la this forum post), the RESET command could be mapped to a remote command (perhaps Pause?).

Thanks again for all the hard work.
