How to 'sleep' using Apple Remote from within VLC?

Postby peanutismint » 01 Sep 2007 18:57

I've searched for an answer to this question to no avail. I'm watching a movie in bed, and I want to go to sleep. I hold the play button on my Apple Remote to sleep my computer, but from within VLC it does nothing.

Is there any way to get the 'hold play on the apple remote to sleep your computer' function to work from within VLC?

Nobody knows how to edit VLC's Apple Remote settings to enable me to hold play to sleep my laptop?!

I was wondering about the same thing. As a workaround, is it possible to disable VLC taking over remote control entirely?

Regrettably, it's neither possible to disable VLC's AR support nor edit its functionality. However, (as I didn't know about this play button feature) I'll implement the suspend to sleep behaviour in the next version. Nice idea.

What's up with this feature? I just recently discovered the Apple Remote's sleep functionality and love it. But as I prefer to watch my media in VLC it would be great to have this feature implemented.

If it is not possible to activate sleep directly from VLC, you could just enable the remote to quit VLC in order for all the normal remote functions to work. It's irritating having to raise from the bed to sleep my imac :)

Thanks for the great software anyway!

Hello guys,

this took way longer than it should have. However, this feature will finally be available in VLC 2.0.2, which will be released shortly.

Awesomely this seems to have been implemented in 2.1.1!
