Is this possible?

Postby quijote » 09 Apr 2008 23:11

I would like to use vlc to redistribute multicast streams over our wan.
We have 4 sites which are made up of approx 20 different subnets. The 4 sites are connected via a vpn with 100MB connectivity to each.
There are 5 multicast channels which presently enter our network via a dedicated multimedia vpn.
I would like the channels to be advertised via our intranet and accessible using windows media player as it is on our pc image.
Is vlc the way to go?
If this is possible I will do the research but would appreciate any pointers to documentation or suggestions.

thanks and regards,

Brian.

thanks j-b. Sap announcements for wmp is exactly the kind of info I was looking for...
However, I've come across another problem before I've even started. The channels are H624 with PAFF interlacing so I tried the latest nightly build(with PAFF support) and I get picture but with a small bit of distortion. Elecard plays the stream fine(with 50% cpu usage and a $40 licence per seat!) so I guess the ffpmeg code or vlc integration isn't quite right yet.
But I digress, I'll post another mail on this...

dragon-pk - Once the above is resolved I'll keep you posted on my findings.

Regards to all,

Brian.
