you have to disable video overlay.

if you just want a frame from the current video, press ctrl-alt-s in VLC.

so that's why my screenshots were black no ? I tried to take some screenshots and nothing happened. I thought if i paused the movie i would gain better results but nothing. I even took them in a windows(not fullscreen) and again nothing.

Yes, that's the reason :)

VLC draws directly to the video card (if using Overlay mode).

Crtl / Alt / S = Compaq Support Information on my computer. So this keystroke is not always going to work. I also cannot locate the command line within keys of VLC to change it :(

Hello,

I have VLC on my computers and I found that certain older versions of VLC use Crtl / Alt / S = to take screen shots and newer versions of VLC use shift /S(lowercase s) since the Crtl / Alt / S didn't work when I tried it out and had to look through the preferences and advanced options.

I think I changed how to take screen shots by going to hotkeys and typing in the word take the search box. That should display the proper hotkey combination to use. Below that there should be a field between the words clear and set that allows you to click on it and then set the new hotkeys you want to use.

Hopefully I am right about this and it all works correctly.

Take care,
