Input stream monitoring

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to make a 2x4 mosaic from input streams received by rtp/multicast. Occasionally, one or two inputs go black, despite I can still join the multicast stream manually from my pc.
What would be the proper way to make a supervisor which can detect when one of the mosaic boxes goes dark and restarts / does something?
