No video using vlc telnet interface

Hello all,
I am having a problem trying to provide some video files from a server to a client over VoD. The way I try to achieve this is by using the telnet interface of vlc.
For example:
new Test vod enabled
setup Test input file.mpg/file.avi/file.wmv (no one does work)
setup Test mux mp2t
My client does not display any video nor plays any sound.
Setting up a new media with an mp3-file as described above works pretty fine.
What could be the reason for not having any video?
Thank you for your replies.
