Load Command File via Telnet

Postby Scott JHU-ECE » 08 Dec 2005 01:47

I'd like to use VLM to manage several streams - a few dozen, in fact. Going through a few dozen sets of the 'new, setup, control' sequence is going to get tedious, especially if something needs to be changed or the computer crashes. Is it possible to do this more efficiently? I was thinking a text file of commands that could be loaded and run sequentially through VLM's telnet interface.

Much thanks,

Scott

VLM already features a 'save' and a 'load' command. You can even launch vlc with the --vlm-conf <filename> option to automatically load a file. More info is available in the streaming howto, chapter 05 - http://www.videolan.org/doc/

Undocumented VLM flag

I've noticed that the --vlm-conf flag is pretty much undocumented. It doesnt exist in VLC 0.8.5, even if you run vlc --longhhelp --advanced. The streaming media directions at http://www.videolan.org/doc/streaming-h ... /ch05.html make mention of creating a text file and using the load command on the telnet interface, but perhaps there should be a few lines added about loading conf files with --vlm-conf <path to conf file>?

Hehe, indeed. I though that i had already done so. I'll update the doc this week end.

Please signal any other modifications that are needed.
