Upload page issues

I have been asked on a number of occasions to use the following link to upload files that are causing issues:

http://streams.videolan.org/upload/

The problem is for everything, except the smallest files, I get told that the VLC version is incorrect. I have tried multiple variations and I still get the issue. Having to wait half an hour for a 200MB file to upload and then only get told at the end that there is a form error is a real pain. I have tried both from MacOS X and Windows, using Firefox and Safari.

Maybe changing where the version string is verified could help?

Just tried again: "VLC version not set. Start again." Follows is the state of the form before upload, and the file to upload is 197MB in size:

I am currently attempting with your suggestion. Either way, in order to avoid being told after half an hour of uploading a file, could we have some Javascript or something else to verify the version before the file upload?

BTW Is the source code for the uploader.php file available?
