Marking posts as resolved?

Postby ajmas » 12 May 2009 20:58

Is there any way, using the phpBB software, that you could add an option for users to indicate when they feel a post has been resolved to their satisfaction?
Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

There appear to be two beta mods available:
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 0&t=559217
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 0&t=887815

^ The first appears more advanced, the latter just being a "Solve topic" quick-mod tool for Mods. Not sure if either appeal :P.

Cheer, Arite.

Without trying them out, I would simply answer 'which ever is simplest to use'.

For me the idea is to help problem solvers decide which posts are still need their attention. The no-brainer approach is usually to look if there are zero responses, but this does not always work since sometimes there are other people in the forum who politely ask for more information to help the people who may know more.

I like the approach I see on the Apple discussion forums where the poster simply sees a box at the top of the thread, with the link "Mark as answered". Clicking that link changes the associated thread icon form a question mark to a star.

To see an example of what I mean: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1221
