Hi All,

Has anyone tried playing back youtube content (streamed content, not locally stored ones) on VLC.
I tried giving the url that i copied from my web browser, but that doesn't seem to work.
I don't know if this is the right way, because youtube has data api's to get the media urls probably.

Has anybody tried playing back (streaming playback) youtube videos on vlc.
Any help will be apreciated.

Thanks in advance.

-Ebin.

You cant re-stream youtube content in this way. Try using a link catcher like clive to get the real http-address of the media content or load and inspect the code of the video-site for instance with wget. If you can play the video with vlc you can also stream the content.

Moved to General VLC media player Troubleshooting.

As rh said you can get the link directly, however, as of VLC 0.9.x, you should be able to put the YouTube link straight into VLC and play it since VLC has a lua script which parses it etc. and finds the video.

So, for example, using VLC 0.9.9 (the current latest version) copy and paste e.g. this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLDOpXqRtJw

Into the "Address" field for opening a network address (i.e. go to "Media >> Open Network..." etc.) and press "Play".

I found the video played okay, but unfortunately there was nothing to indicate how much of the video had loaded.
