Has anyone here seen this site?
http://vlcplayer-download.info/?gclid=C ... kgodSCprfA

It claims to offer VLC Media Player to download and I honestly know someone who at first thought that this was the site for our beloved media player but it clearly is not.. It attempts to charge you for something or such before you're allowed to download any "free" media player...

Anyways I'm just wondering what you guys think - personally I think it's rather upsetting. I'm new here btw!

Yep, this is upsetting, but they have the right to do so.

Rights or no rights, it's a shame. :( I've heard of a case similar to this one posted a while back. A site had modified VLC slightly then charged users to download it. :x What is also upsetting about his practice is that it takes away from the official download count of VLC on the main page. Just imagine what would have happened if impostor sites of Firefox3 started popping up around the time they were trying to break the download record, a lot of them that should have counted wouldn't have.

Tehe. :) Post a jpeg image here of the main page to that site, maybe some others that have downloaded from that site will recognize it and re-download from the official site (?). lol

or better, I think its about time we get a page on the main site saying FAKE-SOFTWARE: DO NOT DOWNLOAD/BUY and put up a list of such pay websites which ask you to pay to download vlc and offer guidence and/or tips to avoid/report such sites.

What do you say j-b ?

more generally, you could have a "wall of shame" like ffmpeg: http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/shame.html that would list all license viloations, etc.

Every website NOT videolan.org is not trustable to distribute VLC.
