VLC Plugins / Add-ons page + Forum Topic

Postby CloudStalker » 11 Jun 2007 08:00

This would be a nice little addition to the site and the forums. The main purpose of it is so that users can create things for VLC that aren't directly related to VLC. What does CloudStalker mean? Well here's an example: Basic Controls Down to a Docklet. If someone wants to create this it can be found right here on this site even though it's not really part of the player itself.

Another thing about it that would be useful is when users make customizations to VLC, new buttons with functionality, special effects for VLC, or even alternate options for what's already implemented (hint volume vs seek hint :)). So instaed of just asking people to code things and submit patchs and such, they can go to this new topic and submit everything there and it'll be made available for download on the 'Plugins / Add-ons' page and possibly in future VLC development. Does that sound like a good idea?

Oh, and this will be separate from the Goodies page since it makes more sense to have its own page on the site.

Just think about it, adding this topic will probably bring more attention to this forum as users can come and download the plugins / add-ons that they want, and this will also make it a little easier on the developers since they wont be constantly bothered with requests to add this and that to the player; they can be added when the developers want to add it, and it'll be a lot easier since someone has already coded it. Please consider.
