My experience with VLC help

I must admit that I am a casual user of VLC. I use it to play downloaded music on mp3 and mp4 clips. I have about 100 of these files. The titles are arranged by composer for classical music and by performer for pop music.

Sometimes I wish to play a selection of music by, let's say, a certain composer. For that purpose, I think I want to create a playlist for the selection in order not to have to re-create it on the next occasion. I went to VLC "help" for instructions on creating a playlist. What I found was so detailed and presumptive of computer jargon that, for me, it was no help at all.

I gave up the idea of creating and using a playlist.
