Postby DGMurdockIII » 07 Sep 2009 20:43

I notice that you get a Fair amount of spam of this forum not alot but enought that you guys would rather not have to be dealing with banning and deleting them so I am suggesting you take a look at the official phpBB anti spam guide on the phpbb site witch i will like to i'll link to both phpBB 3 and phpBB 2 guide because im not sure witch one you have

Custom Profile Fields were tried, although ATM the DB is messed up a bit so the in the ACP that can't be changed.

A keyword spam blocking mod could be quite effective against these notorious iphone sellers.

Please fix it soon... It's gotten really annoying.

Agreed it is annoying :P. phpBB 3.0.6 is now in RC (RC1 ATM), so should be released soon which has mutiple CAPTCHA options - could make some difference. Also hopefully the bug in the ACP for changing custom profile fields might be fixed by updating (not sure whether it is DB or mod related).

Seems to be mod related. A similar issue is here:

May I suggest a way of involving users in spam fight? Like they do at OpenOffice.org forums:
a) users that spot spam messages post a reply containing:

Code: Select all

spamspamspam
b) moderators periodically search forums for the above string and remove the threads.

You just have to use the Report button at the bottom of the spam post.
It's easier for us to spot those posts then.

OK, I see. Thanks. But this way, you have to react to any report (including possible multiple ones from different users), which may become every tiresome in case of real spam floods. My suggestion allows you to kill a bunch of threads at a time.

Believe me it's easier and better for us. Just use the Report button, no need to add spam to spam. Thanks.

Ya, does image verification work more effectively?
