Videolan homepage IE hangs on "features"

Postby henriette » 01 Aug 2008 12:40

hello :)

whenever I open your homepage and click on "features" my IE6SP1 hangs.
My O/S = W2KSP4.

IE don't hang at any other website.
Would you be kind enough to tell me what could be the reason :?:

Lol, you've said it. :P

Look, that was the administrator of this site that posted that answer, therefore, that's probably the most accurate answer you'll get.

No but really, CloudStalker has no clue, he hasn't used IE since FF 2.0 came out. :|

well, if you say so, and if this is the only cause you see I gotta take it as is

btw: got the email from here, that there's a reply to my posting. When I click the link I get a warning
> securitycertificat is not trustworthy. Certificats cannot be verified up to one "point" <
please excuse my poor English-translation - I hope you understand what it means
Even that is new.
Never happened before and don't happen with other forums
Hope you got an idea to that :?

thanks for the reply anyway

Me has no idea. Sometimes Firefox tells me, in a whispering voice , that the certificate to videolan.org is outdated or something like that.

if I knew how to fix it I definitely would. But I have no idea how to. :(

The good news is: I just clicked the link in the email, NO warning this time - amazing IE, isn't it
So maybe (MS is a wondrous "thing"), the problem has fixed "itsself". :o

I will try the "features" again, maybe that's fixed as well ... NO unfortunately IE still hangs. So what.

Thank you ever so much for the reply.

My computer also hanged when I tried to visit your homepage with IE6 in the past. But when I started to use the new version of IE the problem was solved.

So it's a problem with IE6 then. Have you check Microsoft's forums to see if other have had this problem and perhaps found a way around it?

Unfortunately I don't have IE6 since I now have IE7 (which I don't use - have been using Firefox since the first stable 1.0 release :)). It renders correctly in IE7. Although IE may suck :P, it is still the most commonly used browser.

So it hangs on this page?:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html

Well it is not valid XHTML 1.1 (see here), so (perhaps) if it was XHTML 1.1 complient it would render correctly (no guarantee though since IE is is not standards complient - no doubt some IE6 hacks could sort it however).

Cheers, Arite.

Sometimes CloudStalker receives this error in Firefox 2-3 when opening up a notification email sent from videolan.org:

Don't know what it means or why it comes up some of the time but not all of the time. :?

Nice - more likely to work correctly now with IE6, if not an IE6 hack probably needed.
Sometimes CloudStalker receives this error in Firefox 2-3 when opening up a notification email sent from videolan.org:
Looks like an "invalid" https certificate - should only occur when using the https protocol.

well it's not easy for me to understand this "stuff" of what exactly to do.
Thanks anyway for the Link @ Arite > XHMTL1.1
I will try to find out - seems hard for me to translate since very technical English. :(

On the other hand I can live with it.
The links in emails from here work now fine.
