tv conection

I have videoLan working fine on my laptop (windows 2000), I have pluged in an svideo cable from the laptop to the tv (JVC), I can see the computer screen on the tv fine but when i play a movie using videolan it works fine on the laptop but on the tv i only get the sound and a black videolan screen...what can i do pls.....thks
