I would like to know if the VideoLAN client software could be triggered from a web page. If this would be the case, we could ease the access to streaming servers through a web interface.
Such a thing exists for the BitTorrent protocol. Instead of launching a BitTorrent client, then pointing to the adequate tracker server, you can now browse a web site and click on a .torrent link.
Skype has a similar thing. If you know the Skype id of someone, you can generate a callto:// reference in a web page to trigger a conversation.
Has the VideoLAN the ability to handle stream:// links, or something similar?
What I would like to do is to manage a collection of streamable files through a PHP/MySQL interface...
