I checked http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-debian.html and the URLs are still valid. Are they temporarily down due to the issues noted on http://www.videolan.org/news.html or is it something else? I am using Debian.

videolan.org had a big disk crash recently, so I guess it is related. Sooner or later some admin will read this post and get it fixed up.

I'm having the issue with SimplyMepis and apt-get,
I guess the obvious answer is when apt-get works
