Can't install videolan :'|

Postby hecklar » 15 Oct 2004 14:05

Hi all.
I'm trying to install videolan release 0.7.2 on my fedora core2.
I've just followed the little howto find on http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-fedora.html
but when i try to rpm all the stuff i got a "dependence error".

So i've tryied to install it with source code on http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-sources.html
but now i've got a strange error. It says that can't find postprocess.h......but i've installed ffmpeg well.....why this?

Pls help me....i'm going crazy :(

have you tried using apt-get to install?

if not, add these lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:

rpm http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/2/i386 stable
rpm-src http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/2/i386 stable

then run as root:

apt-get update
apt-get install videolan-client

i got vlc installed by either doing this or doing what the install page told me to but instead of:

rpm -U vlc/* --force

I did:

rpm -i vlc/* --force

I think that command will install even if it hits errors. I was able to run vlc and to stream video from ranttv (http://www.ranttv.com) however I still cannot stream from saltwaterchimp.com, which was my intent.

Hope this helps you (and let me know if you find anything further!)
