Multiplexing the Stream

Postby madasafish2 » 29 Jun 2004 09:57

Hello,

I have read the documentation but am still unclear about having multiple streams going to seperate multi-cast adresses from a single DVB-S/C/T card?

For example...

I have a 4 bedroomed house and 5 networked Linux PC's. The Server PC is running linVDR and has a Hauppage Premium DVB/S card inside. The digital channels I recieve on the Server are these 5 channels BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 (+ many more). Is it possible to have each channel stream permanently connected to a unique multi-cast address so that each of the bedroom PC's can tune in to any one of the channels at any time.

Or do I have to have 5 x DVB/S cards and 5 LNB's?

If it possible to use only one DVB/S card in the Server to get all the 5 channels mentioned available in the bedroom PC's, is there any recommendation for what additional software or hardware may be required for.... 1-On the Server and ....2. in the bedroom PC's?

Many thanks for your help.

I doubt you can get more than one channel off of the card at a time -- you either have to have a card which has multiple receivers in it (I haven't heard of such a card, though it may exist), else multiple single receiver cards.

Basically you're working with something that replicates a TV tuner or set-top cable box -- if you turn to channel "BBC1", by definition you aren't receiving channel "BBC2" (the electronics are only down-converting one specific signal at a time to baseband).

We have benn testing this (with Hauppauge Nexus card) and it works. You can stream more than one channel from one card with the limitation that the they must be on the same transponder.

Another chance for me to learn something :) Analog TV/cable works as I described. What command line do you use to stream the multiple channels?
Thank you.

can you explain how did you got vlc to stream with Hauppauge Nexus card? Iv been trying to do this, but i could only stream video without audio, even tho the audio is playing at the same time from the server speakers :(

I also would like to know how are you able to do it...

Can you tell us the hardware and software used and how to setup it?

As you see there are people also interested on reading your solution.
:)

Explain it to us, please.

You could also say: why don't more people keep hanging around here to help other users....

It's the sad truth. when ppl have their answer, they leave.
