The screen stays blank when playing XVID (Mac)

I'm running Mac OS 10.3.2 with VLC 0.7.1a but the screen goes blank when playing xvid. There is audio though.

The same file works perfectly on Windows playing with Media Player.

Is a codec update required or something? Somebody?
Or is it possible to use a XVID codec with Media Player for Mac?

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html lists the formats/CODECs supported. It's quite possible to have a file (such as a .AVI, which is a generic extension name used for Audio-Video files that stuff their contents into the file in a certain order on a PC) where the audio encoding is understood, but the video is not.
