Streaming live tv.

Postby DJ TecThreat » 08 Feb 2004 01:31

Let me start like this. I finally figured out how to get VLS and VLC working good. i have it streaming off one machine onto 3, 1 of which is wireless. (just experimenting). It looks good.

What i want to know is. Lets say i wanted to start my own cable company using VideoLAN as my base.

Basically my customers would get cable internet and a small set top computer that would pick up streams over the internet and would it would have a friendly interface etc.. but the difference between this and other cable would be- it would be all on demand. they could pause the video in real time, etc...

I know i couldnt just fireup servers and stream in live tv, i would need permission to use the streams etc..

All that aside, what are the legal limitation with VideoLAN directly? would this be legal or would i need a special license for for VideoLAN?

As long as you ship all the changes you made to the sourcecode with the product, it would be just fine.
