Ok a little intresting challenge.

30 Bedroom Listed Hotel, cannot run coax, but has CAT5 to every room.

Would like to restream 20ish Sat channel's over IP with a small STB in each room.

How easily can this be done, can VideoLan do this?

Am I right I would need 20 Server's?

It would be really easy to do. Each server can stream several video feeds. SO basically the limiting factor is the number of capture cards in the server (and the network card's bandwidth)

How or what would i use for the STB's and the user front end?

the only stb i ever tried was an amino 110 (or whatever they're called). They feature a webbrowser. So you can host some web pages on one of the servers and the user just clicks on links to load a channel. Using some javascript code we also managed to add channels to the menu if i remember.

Ok, so maybe I should try and get hold of a couple of these boxes.

Any hints on some good encoder cards?
