*.avi file that won't play

Postby flowney » 30 Jun 2005 20:46

I'm on a MacOS X 10.3.9 system and was asked to develop some still images from a surveilance video by local law enforcement. I could open the *.avi file on a Windows 2000 Pro system but I have no good graphics software on that platform. On the Mac where I do have good graphics software, I was unable to get VLC 0.8.2 to play the *.avi. The error was:

main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `IV50'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Is there a way to obtain this decoder such that I can play this file on my Mac? Please reply directly to frank.lowney@gcsu.edu

Thanks.

No. There doesn't even exist a IV50 decoder for the mac, let alone a Free and Open Source one.
