basic how-to on win32

Postby trictrac » 06 Apr 2004 09:47

firt of all, I'm french, so please excuse my syntaxe ;)

Now...
I'm designing a multicast network with win32 computers, and I try to make it work.
Unfortunately, I don't manage to do this.
The routing protocols are up and seems to work properly (tested thanks to 'mcast.exe')
Now, I would like to test VideoLAN on this Network, but I don't know how to make it work.
I follow the How-To's, but it doesn't work.
I want to make VideoLAN work now. On unicast, multicast or on localhost, but I want to see how it must run in order to continue.
Thanks

Look at wiki.videolan.org, the Articles area, for an article on UDP streaming -- it was put together using WinXP and Win2K as the VLC machines.

For multicast, one thing to be aware of is that the multicast addresses may be blocked by various routers and managed Ethernet switches. It works fine if you can control the equipment (in my case, Cisco routers, I just need to enable the multicast addresses), but in my actual workplace I cannot multicast over our LAN, even within a single building -- we use managed switches, and the network administrators have disabled multicast on them.
