Videolan 8.2 dvd stops playing after about 40 minutes

any ideas as to why Videolan 8.2 would stop playing a dvd after about 40 minutes? it will just freeze and then after about a minute the program will just go back to the starting point where you can just push play.
we have it installed on a Windows XP machine with the following info and only the OS and videolan was running at the time.

1.3 Gig proc
256 MB
matrox Millenium G450 dual head video card
